When I was much much much younger—basically a lifetime ago—my best friend was my black lab. We hiked together, chased frogs in the pond, and I shared my deepest thoughts with him while sitting on a rock near the river. I’ve always talked to my dogs. They’re great company, are always sympathetic, and never disagree!
But . . . what if your dog could talk back?
Think about that for a minute. Your dog has her own opinions. Would she always be agreeable? Would she tell you not to eat that second cookie or to change the TV channel to a travel show?
Of course, this is all speculation, but talking to my dog was the inspiration for Prince Dasher Dangerdog Bean, aka Dash, in the Accidental Ghost Detective series. Dash talks to Nikki. Her friends can’t hear him. Sometimes he yaps way too much and sometimes too literally, but one thing you can count on is that he’s always entertaining.
That’s how it goes when you’re an independent minded talking dachshund who helps solve crimes!

Bird sighting: Canada Geese, mallards, and loons are back! I’ve also been seeing eagles, bluebirds, robins, and cardinals on a regular basis. And the pheasants are still around. Maybe there will be chicks soon!

Our border collie loves to talk! It's really funny when he sees animals on TV, especially other dogs and horses (does he think they're big dogs?), because he whines and moans and whimpers and does everything he can to get their attention. I can only imagine what he's trying to say to them :)
We always talk to our pets, and they communicate with us, too. Zoey is always demanding I tuck her in with her blanket or twist the blinds so she gets a sliver of sunshine. Thunder wants to be in my lap, and Athena brings me toys, asking to play.
Thanks for sharing my new Nyx release, btw. I appreciate it!!
